Enable RSTP portfast and flow control on my HP ProCurve 2910al-48G switch

Hello,

I want to enable rstp portfast and flow control on my HP ProCurve 2910al-48G switch.

How do I do that?

Thanks.

Hi Jahl,

The following commands should help you...

   spanning-tree <port_num> admin-edge-port

That will set your port to "portfast".

   interface <port_num> flow-control

That will enable flow control.

Ok.

How will this affect the server that is using this port with iscsi disk?

Flow-Control should be enabled on iSCSI ports and it should also be set to admin-edge-port so spanning-tree won't block the port when it comes online, otherwise you will see performance degredation.

Re: Enable RSTP portfast and flow control on my HP ProCurve 2910al-48G switch

Hi there.

I was seeking for the same information (portfast-like setting) and stumbled across this thread.

I configured it on one of our HP Procurve switches (2510 - J9279A) as follows:

spanning-tree
spanning-tree 3 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 3 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 4 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 4 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 5 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 5 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 6 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 6 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 7 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 7 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 8 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 8 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 9 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 9 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 10 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 10 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 11 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 11 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 12 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 12 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 13 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 13 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 14 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 14 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 15 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 15 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 16 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 16 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 17 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 17 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 18 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 18 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 19 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 19 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 20 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 20 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 21 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 21 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 22 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 22 bpdu-protection

spanning-tree 23 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree 24 admin-edge-port
spanning-tree 24 bpdu-protection
spanning-tree bpdu-protection-timeout 180 priority 0 force-version RSTP-operation

I was seeing those "annoying" log entries before configuring "admin-edge-port", like this:

I 06/18/15 09:33:45 ports: port 7 is now off-line
I 06/18/15 09:33:47 ports: port 7 is Blocked by STP
I 06/18/15 09:33:48 ports: port 7 is now off-line

W 06/18/15 09:34:32 FFI: port 7-Excessive Broadcasts. See help.

Then I configured admin-edge-port, but I still see following:

I 06/18/15 10:04:17 ports: port 10 is now off-line
I 06/18/15 10:04:41 ports: port 10 is Blocked by STP

I 06/18/15 10:39:12 ports: port 7 is now off-line
I 06/18/15 10:39:14 ports: port 7 is Blocked by STP
I 06/18/15 10:39:14 ports: port 7 is now on-line
I 06/18/15 10:39:15 ports: port 7 is now off-line

Could anybody help me in identifying the real issue here (if any at all exists)?

Thanks,

Flavio.

Meanning that You need to replace UTP cables.

I disagree, the reason it is still showing in syslog or device log STP operational status for the respected

ports where linkfast was configured on an iterface because

the changes are not applied dynamically and one has to reload/reboot the switch IMHO.

Re: Enable RSTP portfast and flow control on my HP ProCurve 2910al-48G switch

I have few questions regarding portfast
?
1. Do you enable portfast on trunk port, because in Cisco I can enable but with warning
2. Can I enable portfast per vlan instead doing it perport
