How to know which stages are needed to safely update old Procurve firmware?
I understand that bootROM follows certain firmwares.
I have for instance a ProCurve 2910al-24G firmware W.14.38, ROM W.14.04
Latest firmware for this is apparently W.15.14.0012 - can I simply just put it on top (cumulated), or do I need to follow everyone listed on https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=J9145A
Or this ProCurve Switch 2650 (J4899B) - it is running H.10.67, ROM H.08.02 and latest firmware according to https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=J4899B is H.10.117
Actually I have several old swithes that I want to update - how to figure out the safe path - is it just to download latest firmware, put it on a TFTP, flash it and hope for the best?
Regards, Lars.

Re: How to know which stages are needed to safely update old Procurve firmware?
Lars,
You do not have to have to go through every intermediate firmware revision, or even every revision that updates the Boot ROM. There should be a warning in the release notes in the upgrading section, and as a README in the ZIP file, and on the download page. The prior versions will also be available.
For comparison, here is a switch with required firmware updates:
on https://h10145.www1.hpe.com/downloads/SoftwareReleases.aspx?ProductNumber=J8992A
Having said that, it isn't quite so clear for the 2650, but they do provide H.08.98 on the download page for a reason.
