BL 870C: I can only load the OS when RAID is configured

I have a BL 870c that I am trying to load Windows 2003 IA64 onto using the Hp Smart Setup CD. The issues is that the OS will only proceed past the HDD partitioning section if I have created a RAID array with both 146Gb HDDs.

If I leave them ad individual volumes the OS complains that it can not gain access to the HDD.

This is a known issue with w2k3 that does not understand the presentation of the SAS disks, by using the disk in a raid configurtion, the presentation is emulating a SCSI device and then w2k3 can understand it and recognize the disks.

This issue is solved in W2K8 but afaik will never be solved in W2K3.
