BladeSystem VC-FC & Brocade 4/24 Connectivity

I need to confirm the following connectivity is supported.

Customer wants to connect the HPQ BladeSystem BL680c w/ c7000 BladeSystem Chasis with HPQ HP 4Gb Virtual Connect FC Module directly to the HPQ Brocade 4/24 SAN Switch Power Pack. Within the same c7000 chasis for ESX v3.5 server farm.

Thanks,
Al

Probably not and you would be advised to get an answer direct from HP (HPQ????) locally. It may work but not be supported.

They will need to know...
Which mezzanine cards are being put in which mezzanine slots?
What interconnects are going in which slots?
Are you only going to use the external ports on the 4/24 SAN switch?
Why does it need to have power path?

Re: BladeSystem VC-FC & Brocade 4/24 Connectivity

HP does support a Virtual Connect configuration where the VC-FC module(s) is connecting to a c-class interconnect SAN switch like the Brocade 4/12 (4012) or 4/24 (4024). Remember with Brocade you need minimum Brocade fw 5.2.1b and each Brocade port connecting to a VC-FC uplink port must be enabled for npiv with the portcfgnpivport command.
If this is the first time that NPIV has been enabled for any port on this Brocade switch, you must reboot the switch. Then if you enable further ports with NPIV, you do not have to reboot switch.

Re: BladeSystem VC-FC & Brocade 4/24 Connectivity

Yup... quite happy with VC-SAN modules connecting to 4/12s or 4/24s... but I'm thinking about that they are in the same chassis.
Not on the supported configurations in the VC quickspecs... so need to check with their local HP office if it is supported.
