c7000 licenses

My company is considering the purchase of a c7000 enclosure w/blades on the surplus market. These enclosures come with and without ICE licenses; can you use the enclosure at all without purchasing the licenses (even just to get started)?

Thx,

Re: c7000 licenses

Licenses are for software - server management applications. No need just to use the blade hardware.

Re: c7000 licenses

Thanks for the answer!
Here's my dilemma: We've been using DL380 & DL585 servers w/o anything but basic iLO. I have been touting the virtues of blades but "the boss" says OK for hardware only, no ICE licenses.
I want to get the blades up and running (all RHEL) then decide if we need the ICE licenses. From what I understand, we should be able to do that, correct?

Re: c7000 licenses

Blades comes with ILO select license by default.

It serves many purposes, except few features like power calculation option, scripting, etc which you get in Advanced licences or ICE licenses.

Re: c7000 licenses

If you are using Linux then you many want to decide to use ICE-Linux instead of ICE anyway. ICE-Linux at the moment can only be purchased separately only.

You can get free time limited evaluation licenses anyway from here

Re: c7000 licenses

Hi John Borhek,

You dont reqire a license to manage the enclosre for simple management tasks.

The ICE is only required if you want to use advanced features like RDP. And, ofcrs most of the users don't want to use these applications normally
