Re: Firmware upgrade on HP CMU cluster
Please check the HP CMU Guide:
http://www.manualshark.org/manualshark/files/28/pdf_26782.pdf
Firmware upgrade requirements fro CMU:
Depending on the type of compute nodes in the HPC cluster, it could be necessary to upgrade the
firmware on each compute nodes. It is mandatory to have the same firmware revision on all compute
nodes.
I understand All the node in teh cluster should have the same system firmware level.
HTH,
Regards,
Surendar

Re: Firmware upgrade on HP CMU cluster
the actual firmware upgrade procedure is the same if you have windows or another cluster because it's on the hardware.
See this link:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/blades/components/c-class.html#tab3_content
You want to stay in one set.
So if HP wants you to upgrade, one of them should do the trick.
Did you check the iML/iLO log for the server? The OA - on board administrator, does that say anything about why it has an amber led?

Re: Firmware upgrade on HP CMU cluster
If you upgrade using FW DVD 9.20.
That will take you to FW release set 2010.10. See Link from Johan, select compatability, and scroll down.
Boot on the DVD and do a full update of the servers.
Then upgrade the OA
Then upgrade the Interconnect modules.
I also agree that you should check the IML.
Remeber, that entries must be marked repaird, once it has been fixed.

Re: Firmware upgrade on HP CMU cluster
So start with the servers then do the OA/VC.
See this document for some best practices:

Re: Firmware upgrade on HP CMU cluster
But if you can shut down 1 by 1 as Johan write. And keep the cluster running. Then thats the way to go.
Otherwise, take it down.
Do consider how you do it.
If you choose to mount the image over the ILo, beware that the ILo reboots.
