How to best manage the Blade Enclosure.

I have been using the ILO cable connection in the front of each Blade to load firmware, patches, etc... Is there a better way that would allow me to remotely connect in and do this?

Can a system be tied into the enclosure itself instead of each individual blade and used?

Thanks.

Re: How to best manage the Blade Enclosure.

you can make loopback cable from ilo port to switch, if you have access to one server you can use ILO virtual media and load ISO images, either floppy or CD, had you used back port ilo in G2 enclosure or if G1 enclosure use VLAN (or PP) and route all ILO in one management port for remote solution.

John what you have Enclosure Type?
Interconnects?
External Switch?
What is main concern updates from HP, Microsoft. Etc
If you remotely have access to one blade with loopback you can load ISO images and no CD drive needed. Download one of ISOP creator utility and use it.

Re: How to best manage the Blade Enclosure.

Blade has built in advance ILO wherein you can remotely manage the server including OS deployment, firmware/patches update without going near the server.
To get into the ILO, on p-Class blade enclosure, connect the ILO from the management module to your network, on c-Class blade enclosure, connect the OA to your network.
On either enclosure, you have to set up the ILO IP with static IP or enclosure assigned IP.
