Re: How to install SLES10 on BL685c ?

Hi Olivier,

Welcome to the ITRC forums.

What disks are you installing on to ? Local or SAN ?

When you say the server doesn't start up, what error messages are you getting ?

Cheers,

Re: How to install SLES10 on BL685c ?

Hi Rob,

The installation is on the local disks, 2 disks in RAID0+1.

I have try a few times with some times the error message is:
"Booting from local disk..." then I wait more 15 minutes and it's always this message.

Or
"Search drive C:"

Re: How to install SLES10 on BL685c ?

Hi,

Do you also have SAN connectivity in the server ?

If so its possible that the boot loader got installed onto the wrong disk...

Re: How to install SLES10 on BL685c ?

Hi,

I have an HBA connecting to a SAN. But the zoning is not configured. Then during the installation I see only on disk.

Re: How to install SLES10 on BL685c ?

Hmmm... That probably rules out that one then.

I know on RedHat GRUB gets installed on to the first disk the server can see by default. So with a fibre attached server you could easily install the OS to the local SmartArray drives /dev/cciss/c0... but then get GRUB installed /dev/sda.

It doesn't sound like this has happened in your case but it might be worth checking if you run the installer again.

Hope this helps,

Re: How to install SLES10 on BL685c ?

Hi Rob,

If I remember correctly. The path gives during the installation is /dev/cciss/c0...

Then I have run the server into rescue mode. And I can not see any /dev/sda. But I see /dev/cciss/c0d0p1 and so one.

Then I have mounted the / partition = /dev/cciss/c0d0p2.

And now I can see the grub. And the file menu.lst looks very good with the right path of the / partition.

Re: How to install SLES10 on BL685c ?

Hi Rob,

I have found a solution to install correctly SLES10 on this BL685c. I have put at the first partition the / before it was swap. But may be it's possible to put the swap partition at the begin and we need to check if the grub menu use the right partition for the /.
