HP BL465c G7 Opteron 6300 CPUs
Are the Opteron Series 6300 CPUs available for the G7 blades? They should be drop in compatible with the 6200 series but I don't find them on the website?

Re: HP BL465c G7 Opteron 6300 CPUs
Hello,
unfortunatelly not. 6300 amd's are only for Gen8 in this case - officially. See quickpecs at: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13654_na/13654_na.HTML . As g7 has retired at the end of December 2012, it seems it won't be supported.
At the other hand, bl685cG7 now supports 6300cpu... so, I am quite sure, it will work if you buy them somehow... :)

Re: HP BL465c G7 Opteron 6300 CPUs
Without a BIOS update it won't work. Has HP really decided to not allow a drop in CPU upgrade to work in the G7s on Enterprise Blades? Is this normal practise or have I just been unlucky in this instance?

Re: HP BL465c G7 Opteron 6300 CPUs
Hmm, hard to answer, you should ask your HP sales/support representative.
In latest AMD's HP servers there is kind of special situation. Half size blade 465cG7 supports Opteron 61xx and 62xx, half year ago HP released Gen8 supports 62xx and 63xx. In full blade range 685cG7 there is no Gen8 server and G7 supports full range of Opterons - 61xx-62xx-63xx.
Generally I am sure 465cG7 will work with 63xx, maybe with some limitation. If it is worth to you, you can buy one piece somewhere and try it - of course no HP support.
Or - spend money for newer Gen8, we have it, it is nice system..

Re: HP BL465c G7 Opteron 6300 CPUs
just to mention - similar situation is in rack equivalent - dl385g7 - 61xx + 62xx, Gen8 runs with 62xx & 63xx, 4-sockets dl585g7 offers full range 61xx-63xx cpu...
HP siplly decided to do it in this way.
