Mixing HH and FH servers within one c7000 enclosure quadrant
Jozef had an enclosure question:
****************
Is there below mentioned restriction for mixing FH and HH blades in one quadrant still valid ?
source : QuickSpecs
The c7000 enclosure is divided into 4 quadrants by the vertical support metalwork. Within each quadrant a removable divider is used to support half height devices. To install a full-height blade in any quadrant this divider must be removed. As a consequence a quadrant can only contain either full-height server blades or half-height server blades.
NOTE: Storage blades and Tape blades can be installed in the same quadrant as both full-height and half-height blades, a bracket ships with each D2200sb/Tape Blade that allows a half-height blade to be mounted on top of the storage blade.
NOTE: The lower tape or storage blade cannot be removed without first removing the upper half height blade.
Two comments :
- As a consequence a quadrant can only contain either full-height server blades or half-height server blades.
AFAIK, there will be never problem with one FH and one HH blade in one quadrant as far, as the HH is inserted into lower position...
QuickSpecs says something else... - ...that allows a half-height blade to be mounted on top of the storage blade
new Gen8 server blades have the locking mechanism (visually) the same, as storage blade / tape blade (on the bottom) – not like pre-Gen8 servers (on the side).
NOTE: The lower tape or storage blade cannot be removed without first removing the upper half height blade.
is this mention still valid only for storage blades or also for new Gen8 server blades ?

Input from Dan:

The change in location of the eject handle doesn't change the limitations at all as far as I know.
Tape/Storage blades are still the only thing you can stack when the shelf is removed.
So for servers it's still 1+1 in the same quadrant.

Any other comments or help?
