I have a new blade server BL460c7G to install we don't have the Internal Disks , to install the OS it is needed to get the LUN from SAN [EVA 4000].
Since the box is a new one and OS is to be installed is Linux RHES 5.4.
Could you pls guide me how to configure the LUN from the SAN to the local server [in bios level] ?
Pls advice me how to get the WWN from the new raw box...

Re: Need to assign Lun from EVA 4000 to BL460c7G
Once the EVA has "seen" the HBA, you can create the host entry in CV and assign a LUN.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Need to assign Lun from EVA 4000 to BL460c7G
-- on one fabric switch, you need to enable zoning to one port. Be sure you know which fabric switch is connected to which HBA port.
Later on, when the new Linux system boots reliably, you will need to enable additional paths, and configure multi-pathing. Note: on VMS, multi-pathing is available during system installation, but not on Windows. I don't know which is true for other OS.
-- create the VDISK for the boot volume in Command View EVA (CVEVA).
-- in CVEVA, you need to create a new host, and give it access to the fabric switch port.
-- in CVEVA, you need to present the LUN. You might need to assign an OS ID (you do not for Windows, you do for VMS, and I do not know for *nix).
-- you will also need to make sure the HBA is enabled to boot, otherwise the installation will fail when it attempts to restart from the boot volume.
Until you complete the zoning & presenting, the FC HBA will not be able to write to the volume. But, until the HBA is requesting to log onto the switch, you will not be able to see it from the switch.
