O/A standby card not communicating with Network

Hi all,
I have multiple BladeSystem c7000 Enclosures with 2 O/A cards(obviously one active the other in standby). For example, card A is the active card, B is standby. I can no longer communicate with my standby cards via http, telnet, or ping. I switched the RJ45 cables from the Catalyst Blade switch and was then able to communicate with the stanby B card, but not the Active A card. I switch them back and loose communication with my standby again, but can communicate with the A card.
I've tried this on several of my Enclosures with the same result. Can anyone help me on this one? what would be causing this?
Thanks

Re: O/A standby card not communicating with Network

Shalom,

Can you explain what you mean by not communicating with the network.

A standby card has no IP address, so its not going to show up that way. It should be there and visible via its MAC address.

If you fail over to the card does it become active and visible?

To help I would need to know your test criteria.

Re: O/A standby card not communicating with Network

Normally I can access the standby O/A cards via http, telnet, or simply ping the card. As of now I can't. I do have ONE standby card that I can access via I.E (as well as telnet, and ping). Threw this Admin site you can check general information and transition the card from standby to active.
I've attempted to connect to the O/A cards using their fqdn and IP (and this used to work). I am able to connect using these methods to ONE of my 9 standby O/A cards when I used to be able to connect to all of them.
This appears to be a Cisco Catalyst Blade Switch issue, because when I disconnect the LAN cable from the active O/A card and plug it into the Standby O/A, I can http, telnet, and ping the Standby card. AND, if I take the original cable from the Standby O/A card and connect it to the Active card, I loose communication with that card.
I have two Cisco Catalyst Blade Switches per Enclosure, one link from Switch 1 goes to the Active O/A card, and the cable from Switch 2 goes to the Standby O/A card. Switch 2 appears to be the problem on all but one of my c7000s. 9 in total.
I can't imagine they all have hardware issues, so I'm thinking there is something I am missing.
Thanks for your help, hope I explained this clear enough.

Re: O/A standby card not communicating with Network

Jason
If you can swop cables and it works then it is nothing to do with the OA.
It looks like it is the configuration of the switch the cables are plugged into.
This is a Cisco config issue not a blade issue.....even if the Cisco switch is in the blade enclosure.
VLAN configuration probably!

Re: O/A standby card not communicating with Network

Thanks Adrian,
I was thinking this is a Switch configuration issue. Only one of the switches is pulling an IP, which is the only switch I can access it's management console. So I have another question. I just came into this, so I'm not positive how it was all configured,is there a way to access one of the switches Management consoles remotely? Is there a utility within the Enclosure system that would allow me access to the Switches Management console? Or, is this something I'll have to go onsite and connect directly to it's management port?

Thanks again for everyones help.

Re: O/A standby card not communicating with Network

The Cisco 3020s have two methods of access. Configuring an IP on VLAN1 - which you do using the blue cable and the serial port on the front.
Or via the FA0 port. Which you do by allocating an IP in the EBIPA addressing for the Interconnects in the OA config.
It can have both.
