Power Enclosure BL20p

I have a 3U power enclosure for 3 blade enclosures. I am getting in IML of the servers many errors.

1- Power Enclosure Invalid Topology - Check Cabling.

2- Server Blade Enclosure Ethernet Switch Error - RJ45 module missing (Left Side, Enclosure Address DC70)

3- Chassis Enclosure Address 0544 requires minimum firmware revision 2.20. It is currently 2.10.

I will upgrade the firmware soon, however my question is about the power problem.

The rack has two external power sources, when one of these is not working, half of the servers (left or right) do not have power. It is a feature of the enhanced backplane. How can I change it. I want my 6 power supplies to work for the whole system.

No body?

No one has no idea about that?

I am most of all concerned with the "Power Enclosure Invalid Topology - Check Cabling" since this is a critical error and some times it shows up "Repaired" without me doing anything.

Re: Power Enclosure BL20p

1 . Check cabling, make sure you connect up and down, reset management modules; they are hot-plug and update all Enclosures firmware to 2.33.

2- Install or reseat CUBE module ├в in the HyperTerminal session (serial) it should say more for 6 or 10 ports.

3- Update to the latest one 2.33

with enhanced enclosure you need to have two 3U power Enclosure and use cross Connect for power feeding with dual input or 1U power Enclosure share power insight of Power so any PSU installed at a side will Provide Power to B side Power output.

Re: Power Enclosure BL20p

I will upgrade the firmware and then I will deal with any other problem.

For the redundancy, in this way we cannot have DC redundancy unless we buy another 3U power enclosure module, or 1 U power enclosure. right?

Re: Power Enclosure BL20p

yes

3U

page 11

1U
Redundant AC power
For redundant AC power, bays 1 through 3 must be supplied with AC power from a different branch circuit than bays 4 through 6. Each bay must be supplied with single-phase AC power according to the specifications in the QuickSpecs, which are located at http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12330_div/12330_div.html. The branch circuit should have adequate capacity to handle the peak current demands of a fully populated 1U power enclosure when attached to a fully populated server blade enclosure.
If only one side of the power enclosure is populated with power supplies, the power subsystem is not redundant. If AC redundancy is not required, three power supplies located in any three bays can provide adequate power for a fully loaded server blade enclosure.

Re: Power Enclosure BL20p

thank you about the AC redundancy.

For the Power supply. I have a power enclosure with 6 power supplies. what I can understand is that these 6 are split 3 3 . each 3 for one side.

now how is the power supply redundancy implemented? what if I loose one power supply from one side? or 2 each from two sides?

Do you have any idea about that?

with present configuration you don't have Power enclosure redundancy and you don't have AC redundancy, however you might have N+1 redundancy if power consumed not exceeds power available from two other PSU. Page 68 show redundancy per side where two black straps is 100% (power available from three PSU).

There are several aspects for redundancy, N+1, Enclosure Redundancy; AC feed Redundancy, Bus Bar Redundancy

You can find more details from
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/blades/components/documentation.html
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliant-bl/p-class/documentation.html

Dual input box options and configuration - from page 52, as well redundancy page 68.
