running firmware on an ESX server
we have a few BL 460c G5 servers running ESX 3.5
and i want to upgrade the firmware for this blade enclouser. i am trying to connect to the server using SUM, i am running the SUM from a windows server, and i am not able to log in to the ESX server to scan it.
the user name and password are correct as i can log in to the esx server remotly.
is there somthing i am missing?
cheers

Re: running firmware on an ESX server
Are you trying to upgrade the enclosure or the blade? Online firmware updates for blades running VMware is not supported. Evacuate the VMs from the blade and boot with the BladeSystem Firmware Deployment Tool.

Re: running firmware on an ESX server
we will be doing both blades and enclousers.
and ayt the moment we have 16 esx servers all running upto 5 guests on each.
do you think it would be safe to just power down the guests and boot to the firmware CD?
also do you know why it is not supported? seems strange
cheers
