Server 2012 clt+alt+del logon screen blank after a few weeks

Hello,

We seem to run into a similair problem described here (http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/HP-BladeSystem/BL460c-G7-hang-on-reboot/td-p/5505123#.UeZaqUzCSM8). Installed a few new bl460c g7 with Windows Server 2012. After a week I can't login anymore. When pressing clt+alt+del the screen stays blank. Only a reboot is fixing this and I can login again (for a week orso). Server pings respond but that's it. No other services like Hyper-V or Clustermanager is working. Can't connect to remote eventviewer and nothing is logged. We have the same bios version as in the article mentioned above, 2011.05.05 and OA 3.70. Maybe somebody is experiencing the samen behaviour?

Best regards,

Peter

Same problem (BL460c G7 + Windows 2012) with bios version 2012.12.03 (A) (11 Jan 2013) and iLO3 1.57

Thanks

Re: Server 2012 clt+alt+del logon screen blank after a fer weeks

ok it seems that our 3 node cluster has the problem on all nodes. Upgrading the firmware doesn't has any effect because Noardo has done that. Where to look, Windows or HP drivers/hardware, anybody?

Re: Server 2012 clt+alt+del logon screen blank after a fer weeks

I have a problem with blades BL460C G7 + Hyper-V 2012 and 8 node cluster or non-clustered Hyper-V in 2012, ie only the Windows 2012 system and nothing more.

All blade with the last drivers and firmware.

Firmware or drivers bug?

And sometimes:

Operating System failure (Windows bug check, STOP: 0x0000001E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF8800127527E, 0xFFFFF8800AC65C48, 0xFFFFF8800AC65480))

Problem : Drivers video or Bios with BL460C G7

hummmm...

Same drivers video with G7/G8, but not same Bios and iLO...

G7 or not G7, that is the question...

Are you powering on the server and then getting a blank screen? Or is it already powered on and you are just trying to get into the GUI already running on the system?

There is a known bug in pre ilo4 1.30 fw where when you power on the server through iLO IRC you get no display until you close and reopen the IRC.

A G7 blade would have an ILO3, not an ILO4.

ILO4's came out with the Gen8 servers.

Re: Server 2012 clt+alt+del logon screen blank after a few weeks

Did you have any luck finding a fix?  I'm having what seems to be the same problem with a BL460c G6 and Server 2012--after a couple of weeks, the hypervisor OS stops responding and I can't connect via RDP and iLO just gives me a blank Server 2012 gray screen after CTRL+ALT+DEL is pressed.  All guest VMs respond just fine.  I just found an updated BIOS released Aug 14 2013 that sounds kind of like the problem...just installed the updated BIOS on 1 host, so we'll see how that goes.  Very frustrating problem, though.

Since passage of the HP Service Pack for ProLiant 2013.09.0 (B) (drivers+firmware), freeze problem with windows 2012 + BL460c G7 disappeared.

Re: Server 2012 clt+alt+del logon screen blank after a few weeks

Hi,

just for your information:

We had the exact same issue (could not logon anymore, server only responded to pings but all other ethernet traffic wasn't working anymore. some times even bluescreens appeared) on multiple windows Server systems!

we found out that our problem was application based. there was a misconfiguration in some applications (in our case terminal server applications) which lead to that the opened connections from users weren't closed correctly.

so that's why at some point after a specific amount of logins / connections where reached, the problem appeared.

Ville

It is the most common error problem issue and you can get rid out of this error from here: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
