Re: struck at Installation.... little urgent plz

AFAIR some other forum members reported about similar problems with unsupported DVD drives.

I would suggest the following:

1) consider to create a hardware mirror on your disks first

http://docs.hp.com/en/J6369-90071/index.html

2) check the firmware of the blades

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=3709945&prodSeriesId=3331044&swItem=ux-63450-1&prodNameId=3331045&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1

System FW : 04.05
BMC FW : 05.32
iLO-2 MP FW : T.03.06
PDH FW : 50.07
UCIO FW : 03.0b
PIC FW : 00.05

http://docs.hp.com/en/12076/vMediastatement.pdf

3) try to install with another dvd drive or use the vMedia

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: struck at Installation.... little urgent plz

You could try using HPUX 11.31 September 2007 Release Media. I had been setup twice on blade860c few months ago with September 2007 release, press 'r' to rescan manage to get the media to startup. Besides, you can try to use another dvd device, suggested using HP branded as some non-hp branded cant detect on blade servers.

Thanks,
Desmond

Re: struck at Installation.... little urgent plz

Well this is definitely a timing issue - unfortunately the Install process has no control over the speed of the DVD drive or the network between the vMedia interface and your DVD drive which is presumably in a PC somewhere? It looks like in this case the vMedia interface to your PCs DVD drive just isn't responding within the bounds of the IO scan timeouts. All I can suggest at this point is:

1) How many times did you try to rescan? I'd at least try it several times.
2) Try the vMedia install from another PC with a different type of DVD drive - it might respond/spin up faster - you could take this further by using a x-over cable from the blade enclosure OA straight to the PC to remove any slow network components.
3) If you've done lots of HP-UX installs then you should be familiar with Ignite? If you can find another HP-UX server somewhere and get it on the network, then you can configure it as an Ignite Server, install the 11.31 images onto the Ignite Server and install via network boot.
4) The only other option I can see is to get a USB DVD drive and attach via the dongle direct to the front of the BL860. That removes the slow vMedia interface from the problem completely.

Do you actually have a call open with support as well? No-one here *has* to help - we do it out of the goodness of our hearts! But the response centre is contractually bound to help you resolve these sorts of things!

Re: struck at Installation.... little urgent plz

There are only the 2 internal disks visible.

Did you already try the install via vMedia?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: struck at Installation.... little urgent plz

Hi tortson,

I have only two internal disks here..

The 11i v3 release date is March 2008

I have tried the vMedia Install but again when I click on Virtual Media Tab and hit the Launch button.. I just get a Blanc Screen

SYSREV

Current firmware revisions

MP FW : T.03.06
BMC FW : 05.32
EFI FW : ROM A 07.13, ROM B 07.13
System FW : ROM A 04.05, ROM B 04.05, Boot ROM A
PDH FW : 50.07
UCIO FW : 03.0b
PRS FW : 00.08 UpSeqRev: 02, DownSeqRev: 05
PIC FW : 00.05

To summerise I have connected a External USB DVD Drive to the iLo. and connected the console to it using the Null Cable.

There is no OS Loaded on the Server at the minute.

I always get struck at point where it "asks to enter the index corresponding to ..." and then I have repeatedly rescanned "r" option.

I have also tried that using a different DVD Drive.

I have also configured the DNS

Current DNS Configuration:
S - DHCP for DNS Servers : Enabled
D - DHCP for DNS Domain Name : Enabled
R - Register with DDNS Server : Yes
N - DNS Domain Name : ma.adp.com.
1 - Primary DNS Server IP : 13.8.72.175
2 - Secondary DNS Server IP : 10.8.72.193
3 - Tertiary DNS Server IP :
