using DVD on a Blade server

I'm new with Blade servers and I'm confused on how I can use a DVD to "swinstall" anything. Can patches, bundles, etc,... be installed via "virtual media", or am I only limited to an external DVD drive?

Re: using DVD on a Blade server

hi,
i think, you could use external media or copy the content to another server (hpux) and export it from NFS or copy via scp / ftp to the server on blade.

Shalom,

The purpose of virtual media is to permit installations of software.

It is somewhat easier and a proven technique to do depot installs, patches bundles and such from an NFS share.

Re: using DVD on a Blade server

The only reason we use external dvd (plugged into the scsi port on the onboard administrator module) is to update firmware on integrity blades.

Nothing to stop you using it, but the virtual media approach is more sensible.
