In our organization we tunnel the VLAN tags and instead allow the host (ESX) to handle the tags.

On the Edit Ethernet Network page, if "Enable VLAN Tunneling" is unchecked any tagged packets will be dropped.

Can you build a network without using the Shared Uplink Set and set VLAN tagging to Tunneled?
