virtual serial numbers on SAN-attached enclosures only?

Hi all,

I opened a case with support this morning since after updating Virtual Connect firmware to revision 2.01 I see the "Serial Number (Logical) Settings" is not available on some enclosures. (I have not used it yet so I am not sure if it was available before.) It seems the link only appears on enclosures that are attached to a SAN fabric and not those that have only VC-Ethernet modules. After some checking the support tech told me that this option is only present after installation and configuration of VC-FC modules.

Anyone have a clue as to why this would be? HP doesn't think that anyone would install a serial number sensitive application on a server that wasn't SAN-attached??
