BladeSystem c-Class - Adding the HP 8Gb 20-Port Fibre Channel Module
Terri had a Fibre Channel question:
*************************************
Hello all,
Anyone knows what CFL region 19 means?
- Emulex LPe1205 8Gb Fibre Channel (Part Number 456972-B21) Rev A HBA (is recognizable by EDC A-4904 on the HBA)
- Requires flash update CFL region 19
- Recommend firmware 1.11a5 (or later)
*****************************************************
Walton knew the answer:
*****************************************
All 8 Gb Fibre Channel devices use a c-Class feature called “channel customization” to improve signal integrity. With this feature, each device customizes the transmitter & receiver settings for each device it can connect with. For Emulex, those settings are stored in CFL region 19. Emulex LPe1205 8 Gb FC mezz cards at Rev B and later are “aware” of the 20 port VCFC module and already have a table of settings loaded. Emulex Rev A cards must be updated as there is no such table of settings for the 20 port VCFC module in that revision. (Rev A was manufactured before the 20 port VCFC module existed.)
The process to update the Emulex CFL region 19 has been documented for the customer. Note that we implemented an ECO to update the Emulex CFL region 19 in Emulex’s factory before the 20 port VCFC was ever shipped. Therefore, the number of cases where the update is actually required will be greatly minimized.
