HP Virtual Connect 4Gb FC Module (409513-B22) "No communication" error - Enclosure degraded status
Hello All,
First (Bay 3) HP Virtual Connect 4Gb FC Module (409513-B22) lost communication with Onboard Administrator (No IP assignment) and as a result the Enclosure got degraded status. The general VC FC module status was still OK (see below)
Status Status OK Thermal Status OK Powered On
Diagnostic Information Device Identification Data OK Temperature OK Overheat Check OK I/O Configuration OK Power Allocation Request OK
A couple of reset, power off/power on operations did not change the situation. We decided to replace suspicious VC FC module by using the same module model from another HPE Blade Enclosure. Unfortunately there is still "No communication" error and additionally used Uplink ports have "NOT-LOGGED-IN" connector status. For the sake of completeness the firmware version is the same on both VC FC modules.
It seems that simple replacement of VC 4Gb FC Module is unsuccessful. Could someone explain what can be a reason of "No communication" error and whether any additional steps are needed in case we replace VC FC module?
Is there any special procedure in order to add new VC FC module to the existing VC domain? We use HP Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager.
Regards

Re: HP Virtual Connect 4Gb FC Module (409513-B22) "No communication" error - Enclosure deg
Hi together,
we have currently exactly the same situation - our
HP 4Gb VC-FC Module 409513-B21 in Bay 5
does not response to the C7000 enclosure - "OA Communication Status": Failed.
Turning off/on, pressing reset does not change the situation.
We are are going to order a new one.
Question: Is it possible to mix a
- HP 8Gb VC-FC Module 409513-B21 with
- HP 4Gb VC-FC Module 409513-B21
for the time of replacement? Or do i have to shutdown the whole FC-connectivity to replace both 4Gb with the new 2 x 8Gb modules?
best regards
Danny

Re: HP Virtual Connect 4Gb FC Module (409513-B22) "No communication" error - Enclosure deg
Hi,
here we are:
1 BladeSystem c7000 Onboard Administrator HP O988MP2739 412142-B21 414055-001 2.60 Aug 31 2009
2 BladeSystem c7000 Onboard Administrator HP O988MP3548 412142-B21 414055-001 2.60 Aug 31 2009
1 HP 1/10Gb VC-Enet Module 2.32
2 HP 1/10Gb VC-Enet Module 2.32
3 HP VC Flex-10 Enet Module 2.32
4 HP VC Flex-10 Enet Module 2.32
6 HP 4Gb VC-FC Module 1.40
The 2 x 8Gb and 1 x 4GB FC modules are on the way - i don't know the firmware version of these modules. Also, we have no second C7000 for testing purpose. So I'm not sure how to go on ...
Best regards

version and you can't integrate them
So need a least update installation before swap or downgrade new in another
enclosure
To live that i'would say patience and good look
Firmware version installed have some issues like you described..

Re: HP Virtual Connect 4Gb FC Module (409513-B22) "No communication" error - Enclosure deg
Yes - i agree. We are going to order another c7000 to preper the modules/blades. Then, first i will downgrade the 4 Gbit FC. After, I will plan to upgrade the whole Bladecenter to the current firmware versions..
Thanks for now for your advice - will came back soon (-;
Best regards

Re: HP Virtual Connect 4Gb FC Module (409513-B22) "No communication" error - Enclosure deg
Hi frenchy94,,
we are now owner of a second C7000 including some necessary modules (screenshot).
My task is now to downgrade one of the 4Gb VC-FC from 1.41 to 1.40
I'm surfed through the HP site, found "HPE Virtual Connect 4.62 Release Notes" containing the firmware-compatibility matrix but was not able to find the firmware 1.40 itself nor a way how to downgrade to 1.40
Maybe you can help me tracking down my task?
Best regards
Danny
