Physical serial number instead of logical (VCX* / VCY*) serial number
Hi,
We have a situation where some blade servers running windows that report logical serial number (starting with VCX or VCY) instead of the actual physical serial number when querying Win32_BIOS and Win32_ComputerSystemProduct WMI classes.
We need to identify the actual physical serial number of these servers but the root/HPQ namespace and accociated WMI classes does not seeem to be installed on them.
How can we find the physical serial number of these servers? ANY thoughts and tips are welcome as this is a crucial piece of information for hardware asset management use cases.
Thanks

Re: Physical serial number instead of logical (VCX* / VCY*) serial number
You can physically check the Toe Tag that slides out on the front of the server.

Ask someone to walk by and take a picture?

Re: Physical serial number instead of logical (VCX* / VCY*) serial number
If having someone walk by and snapping a picture isn't possible.....
Haven't setup a VC profile in awhile so I don't recall if setting the serial number is profile specific, or chassis specific. If it can be done at the profile level, create a new profile using the sysem serial number instead of a VC provided one and move the server to the new profile.

Hi
From the OA, for each server you should see both logical and physical serial number
