Virtually assigned WWN's - can they be reused once Virtual Connect (VC) profile is deleted

Terri had a question:

Hello all,

I have done this in the past, is it still possible?

Want to create a server profile and specify the virtual pWWN (for port 1 and port 2 of the FC HBA) in the server profile.

EXAMPLE: Have an existing server profile with:

50:06:0b:00:00:c3:1e:2c

50:06:0b:00:00:c3:1e:2e

HP has told me the profile is corrupt and I need to delete it. I have zoned by the pWWN and really don’t want to have to re-zone.

  1. I see in the VC cli 3.51 I can copy a profile. Not sure I want to do that if the source might be corrupt.
  2. There WAS a add profile command that included the option to specify the pWWN addresses I want. But I’m not finding that as an option in the VC cli 3.51 user guide. We still have the add profile:

add profile

Create a new server profile. After the profile is created, the profile can be

configured using the "set" subcommand, and additional network, fabric, and FCoE

connections can also be added. The server profile can also be assigned to a device

bay using the assign subcommand.

I do see the option to add VC SAN fabric to my new profile:

>add fc-connection MyProfile fabric=SAN_5

But I am not seeing an option to specify what I want the pWWN to be for MyProfile.

Is this still an option, or not?

That option is still available. Here’s a snippet from the 3.51 CLI UG:
