Automatic Connection Out of Control

My automatic connection feature sometimes turns on and begins dialing my POP3 when I power up and the cancel button does not always kill it. I have to keep soft reseting my 2215. It also turns on inadvertently during applications. Do you have any advice to solve the problem? Obviously, I'd like it only to turn on when I load an address in PIE or hit send/recieve in Pocket Outlook. Thank you in advance for your help.

Sounds like you could have a virus which is trying to connect so it can send out little bundles of joy to everyone in your address book. It appears that even PDAs are not immune to the plague.

Re: Automatic Connection Out of Control

Ron,
Thank you for your answer. I followed your suggestion. However, I loaded some virus software and found no bugs using
PC-cillin for Pocket PC version 2.0. Any other suggestions? Each time I turn on the power or when my device powers up for reminders the conection feature begins dialing. Thanks for your help.

Re: Automatic Connection Out of Control

I don't have a PDA so don't know what exactly to tell you. On a Window box you can usually go to the Control Panel and look under Internet Settings/Connections. Make sure it doesn't say Always Dial. Never is a good choice.

On a regular PC I would look for spyware with adaware or spybot but I don't know if either of them work on PDAs. Once it connects open a DOS window and do

netstat -a

That might tell you who it is trying to talk to and give you an idea of what program is doing it. Also run task manager if you have such a thing to see what programs are running when this happens. Does it have msconfig? You could use it to eliminate possible candidates.
