TX1000 Wireless Problem

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

@ Barry Spangles

One does not have to have disappearing wireless to be suffering from the same problem.

The problem is caused by a bad Nvidia graphics card that is built into the motherboards.

This is a wide spread problem that affects both laptops, and desktop computers, and affects many brands of computers.

And HP is being dishonest about it.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Google for a list of symptoms and laptops affected -- my fury is that altho my model number (dv9000) is covered, only certain pruduct numbers under dv9000 are included, and mine is not one of them! The problem is the motherboard, and the symptoms include loss of bootup, VERY slow bootup, WiFi stops working, etc. If we join together we can stop their refusal to fix their machines. I spent hours with their call center and all they kept saying (politely, of course) is that my product number is not covered. The repair with shipping is well over $500 and it is because of their motherboards!

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Ok update guys...They received my computer October 27 and emailed me this:

Receipt Date of Defective Product: 10/27/2008

Expected Delivery Date: 11/04/2008

Today I see this:

Expected Delivery Date: 11/18/2008

What the heck? The customer service person said it would take less then one week to get it back to me....I have a feeling they will send it back to me still broken since my warranty expires on the 20th and then say I'm out of warranty...Never will buy an HP ever again!!

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Okay got my laptop (tx1000) back from HP repair.. they replaced the motherboard... so how long do I have until WIFI goes out again? lol... Oh hey Realtor if a laptop comes with a WIFI card install already its NOT a fix when you have to spend extra money to buy another wifi adapter to make it work!

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

If the problem is indeed caused by excessive heat, you might one to look into a way to cool down the laptop. Might help the longevity issues for a while. HP needs to respond to this thread.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

@ Barry Spangles

It was first thought that the problem was caused by exessive heat, but the problem is actualy caused by the Nvidia graphics chip being improperly installed. This is causing the solder connections to crack from the repeted warming up, and cooling down.

It's not that it can't take the heat, but it's that when metal gets hot it expands, and as it cools down, it contracts. Because the Nvidia chip was improperly installed, it can't take the stress of warming up and cooling down, and eventually the solder connections start to crack.

I got a black marker and blacked out the HP name on the cover of my laptop. I don't want anyone to see my HP laptop, and make the bad decision to buy one too.

This post has not yet been censored by HP.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I recently escalated with HP and I eventually got a case manager who quickly dismissed my concerns citing that HP is not aware of any problems with the TX series. She added that in order to repair the laptop I would have to pay. I am really upset and disappointed that a company of this size would, simply ignore loyal customers.

Now, I am faced with either buying a new motherboard or just replacing the whole (Da..) thing. As with most of us, the economy is hitting me hard and I thought that I had purchased a decent machine that had the promise of a decent forthright company behind it; it's ashame. So, I guess I will gather my money and make a decision soon, I have been advised that I should just chuck it and buy another brand.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

This is absolutely ridiculous. This laptop is the WORST I've ever seen in my life. Problems: CD drive randomly pops open whenever it wants too, especially when CD is in, how convenient is that? Audio headphone jack no longer works, and YES WIRELESS has been GONE for 6 MONTHS. I'm in school, I don't have time to send this POS crap in to get fixed every two weeks because this problem keeps coming up. HP, LISTEN, you will NOT, ever, EVER receive another PENNY from me, EVER again. I'm now going to tape myself throwing this god forsaken thing off the top of my roof and send the video straight to apple...and the remains of this ^%#! straight to YOUR doorstep. GOOD DAY.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Well the self-activation of the quick-launch buttons have fazed out.

And is seems that the scroll problem with the mouse is now fazing out.

But the self activation of the CD is still very much a problem. It's still a real annoyance, self activating, and ejecting.

Everyone needs to call the main office, and ask to speak with Mark Hurd.

I've gotten so fed up with how HP is cheating so many people.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

Having the same problem here too. My HP TX1000 is no longer able to access my wireless network. The wireless indicator stays amber and the hardware is not listed in the device manager. The first time this happened, I suspected a microsoft update that had just downloaded, but since 15 had just automatically hit the system, I had no idea which one. I uninstalled a few of the ones that had just been installed, rebooted, and the system wouldn't boot anymore. I got the ntoskrnl error.

Recovery manager was useless, so I wiped it out and reloaded vista, which wasn't easy since HP doesn't ship the software with the computer. After reloading, the wireless worked again, but a couple days later stopped working again. Another person who had posted in this thread said it worked in safe mode, so I tried that, but it didn't work for me. While in safe mode I noticed in the msconfig tool that the startup selection was set to selective. I changed it to normal startup-load all devices and drivers- and the wireless card started working, but again only briefly. Later that evening it quit working.

I've now reformatted the drive and am reloading Vista (would load XP but there are no drivers for the video card) and will turn off automatic download of microsoft updates and see what happens.

I had high expectations for this computer, but instead I'm using my trusty old Averatec that I drug all over Iraq with me 2 1/2 years ago and its still working. No more HPs for me either.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

So far, reloading vista seems to have worked. The wireless is working again. We'll see for how long. Automatic updates are disabled. If it keeps working for a week, I'll enable the updates and see if it stops after downloading and installing the updates. If that happens, it rules out the hardware; based on what everyone else has written though, I expect it to fail soon, probably after being shutdown or in hybernation long enough for the connections to cool.

We'll see.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I am almost sure that HP is very much aware of this problem. It is almost hard to believe that they have not been made aware of this TX series defect. I think that they are just conveniently brushing off the problem in the hopes that it will eventually go away.

I had an interesting conversation with the case manager which was repeatedly posted here 1-877-917-4380. she claims that she is the one in charge of this specific problem but yet claims that she knows nothing of this issue. It would be really great if everyone can call her. She also claims that HP values our concerns and once there are more than half a dozen complain regarding the same issue HP normally would take the steps in recognizing the problem. I mentioned to her to check out these forums and that not only we are exceedingly more than half a dozen with identical issues that should be acknowledged. She also cross examined/interrogated me and my relationship wth my TX1000 and what went wrong and once in awhile reiterated that my case (problem) had no bearing on everyone's posting in this forum because each individual case differs. After the cross examination she figured that the caused of my laptop's death was the fact that I had used an external wireless device (I had to buy one in order to connect to the internet) she claims that because of this and I, knowingly used a device that was not authorized by HP it had eventually caused my laptop to fail due to a conflict.

Immediately, after I hung up with her I called tech support (without giving details of my own personal information) I mentioned that I've been having a problem with my TX1000's wireless device dissapearing for several weeks now and would it be fine if I use an external wireless device in order to connect to the internet. the tech support guy did not ask in details nor volunteered any other help but just said it was perfectly fine. I then ask him if he wanted to walk me through fixing my wireless network device that kept dissapering and he stated that it would be much more convenient to use my external wirless device since I already have one handy. I then asked him if HP recommends a specific brand or type he said not really and any usb external wireless device will do.

Nevertheless, this sums up my eventful conversation with our supposedly case manager and her efforts in trying to dodge this serious TX problem.

The Link above explains the recall. The Computer Models and the issues for this recall. Wireless Card Malfunction is Number 1 on the list.

Dealing with tech support.

Hp Tech support is driving to minimize any chance of them having to pay for new parts. In saying this.
If your Wireless Card Is not in Device Manager and You have an Amber Light When the Wireless Switch is in the ON positions. This is a Malfunction With the motherboard and not the Wireless Card.

Fixes that will not fix this issue.

- Trouble Shooting with hp - They like to belame alot of this issue on:

- Microsoft.
- Corupt Drivers.
- Out of date firmware.

If Hp Tells you this, Let them know Your Wireless Card no longer shows in device manger (Make sure it doesnt show in device manger to be fair.)
Also STRESS That you have an amber light that is in the wireless switch on posistion.

Then referance this recall and let them know , Hp Has admitted to this issue and your laptop needs serviced.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277

Again. Stess to tech support your issue.

There series of steps are things like:

Re - Installing The driver

Updating Firmware.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I have hit the same problem with my wife's TX1000 PC, but the support experience was fine.

When I used the Chat process and described the problem (including the important facts that the wifi card did not appear under Device Manager, and that I had downloaded the most recent drivers and re-installed to no avail), I was quickly told that it would require a HW repair, and that HP would send a package out to have me ship it in for them to work on it.

So I will have to wait to see what happens when it is returned, but so far I'm happy with the quality of support for my PC, which is under warranty. (If yours is not under warranty, then the "buy an external wireless adapter" approach several have mentioned in this thread seems like the way to go!)

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

I've had wireless issues as well with the TX1000. When I emailed HP they asked me to remove the wireless card once the machine was off and reinstall it. Once you restart the machine Vista recognizes the device and installs the driver. I was recommended to install a new driver from HP's web site. Nothing happens when I tried to update the driver. Then the wireless stopped working again. I went through the same steps without success. I had pretty much given up and bought a wireless dongle (which I don't like) and all of a sudden the internal wireless started working again. Short lived it died. Long story short I pulled the card out again but when the machine was on. Shut the machine down and reinstalled the card. Vista recognized the card but this time I went to the device manager and updated the driver there. The driver installed is from 10/22/2008. I haven't shut my machine off since the update of the driver. If it dies again I'll come back and let you know. I read this long forum and everyone declared their problem, but too few displayed solutions. Hopefully this works for me as well as others.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

A solution has already been posted. You need to have your faulty motherboard replaced.

Re: TX1000 Wireless Problem

No...The above method is working fine for me and I don't need the motherboard replaced for my machine at this time. Sorry you need(ed) a new motherboard.
