you can direct attach it to a server if you want , although it is usual to access it via a fibre channel switch so the array can be shared by multiple servers. see diagrams in the install guide.

4 Gb Emulex PCI-e HBAs are not supported on the EVA4400 or EVA6400/8400 (direct connect or SAN support). The affected 4 Gb Emulex PCI-e HBAs are AD299A, AD355A, AD221A, AD222A, and AD393A. The affected HP-UX versions are 11.23 IA64 and 11.31 IA64.
