MSA1000 - moving HD from a raid to another one

Hi,

We have a MSA 1000 with 7 logical drives, and in order to gain some space, I would like to move 2 HD from a RAID5 (module including 5 HD) to another logical drive for expansion (raid5 too)
I was wondering what is the recommended way to remove to drive from a RAID 5; software or hardware process? And to expand it as well.

Thank you

Last time I checked, the MSA1000 does not support shrinking of disk drive arrays. You do have to backup your data, delete all logical disk in the disk drive array and the array.
Then you need to recreate the disk drive array, th logical disks and restore your data.

Expansion, however is possible.

MSA1000 is a SmartArray controller, they do not allow removing disks from an RAID.
More sofisticate and expensive products like the EVAs, allow you to add and remove disks from a group, and increase or decrease the size of a LUN, online.
