MSA30 6402 DL380 G4

I have a DL380 G4 with built in Smart Array 6i which I intend to use with the 6 internal drives. Intend to attach a MSA30 with 6402 (512MB BBWC). I understand I need a VHDCI cable (341174-B21).

Question is should I get Single bus or Dual bus? Is ADG RAID 6? How is the performance on 6402? Anything else I need to get everything working? This setup will be used primarily as a backup server.

if this is backup for D2D2T (staged backup from other servers then on to tape) throughput and capacity should be more important than the protection of ADG, go for raid 5 as it will be faster. I prefer dual bus but remember you need two connections to the controller (one per bus) as only half the shelf will be seen on each connection with the dual bus card.

I've found that ADG can have a fair impact on performance. If you're after redundancy i'd use an online spare rather than ADG. The SA will automatically "use" the online spare if one dies.

If it is for D2D backup, i'd probably stripe the data for even better performance.
