Upgrade EVA 4400 to 8400

Hi all,

we have to upgrade our EVA 4400 to a EVA 8400. I can´t find any informations which steps
are necessary to do the upgrade without loosing
our data.. I know that we have to upgrade the
EVA´s Firmware to CXS09501100 or higher, Backup the Data and Configuration, upgrade the
SAN Switch Firmware and HBA Drivers..
Can anyone give me some infos what the next steps are ? Thanks !

Re: Upgrade EVA 4400 to 8400

Hello,

HP should provide you with a document describing the steps. (replacing the controller enclosure with the two new ones for the EVA8400 controllers)

There is some details about connecting the disk enclosures when going from a one loop system to a three loop system.

I would recommend updating to the same firmware levels before connecting enclosures.

When thats done you will not need to update any SAN Switch/HBA Firmware since the x400 series EVA all uses the same software versions.

Re: Upgrade EVA 4400 to 8400

Hi,

thanks a lot for the replys. The document
"Upgrade Assesments" descripes only the
"Pre-Upgrade Tasks". I´m not sure
how to do the controller replacement itself.
Did we have to initialize the new controllers first and then connecting the
enclosures ? Which is the best way for cabling the enclosures? (6 Enclosures)
Should we use one loop of the 8400 controllers for the 6 enclosures and adding
future enclosures to the second loop ports ? Many Thanks !

Re: Upgrade EVA 4400 to 8400

Hello,

Please check with HP for the correct procedure to replace th controller enclosure.

Best practice on the enclosures is the spread the evenly on the loops - e.g. 2 on each loop.
