SAS drive firmware upgrade - how soon must the required reboot occur ?

Critical customer advisory c03747345 was released in late April, and it followed on the heels of a similar SAS disk critical advisory in March.  I'm still trying to get the firmware installed to address that one.    After I install disk firmware, I understand that a reboot is required to activate it.  But reboots are difficult to arrange in my company: the next approved downtime for software maintenance is in late July.

Would there be any harm or cause for concern from installing the firmware now, without a reboot ?   Some servers do have scheduled weekly reboots, so they'd activate the new firmware soon, while others would not be activated until late July.

Re: SAS drive firmware upgrade - how soon must the required reboot occur ?

I dont think there is any requirement, it just wont be updated until the server is rebooted / disks initialize.

Please be aware that there is a slight delay on POST as once the disks are initialized by the array controller, the FW is written to them before your OS can start up.

I've never seen it last more than a few minutes though.

Thanks,

Mark...
