Firmware EVA5000 3.110 or 4.x ?

We have two EVA5000's (firmware 3.028) with Continuous Access and CVE 4.1.2.

We want to upgrade to 3.110 or 4.x.
Can someone advise us to which version we should go? Has version 4.x (active-active) some influence on Continuous Access?

Many thanks

You must change the front-end (FC) cabeling as part of the VCS V4 migration, so 'some influence' is a bit of an understatement ;-)

If you go to 4.x you may have to change your multi-pathing S/W too.

Re: Firmware EVA5000 3.110 or 4.x ?

Hi,
The 5k is quite old storage and in EVA architecture the main bottleneck is the mirror port. Therefore the real benefit of the Active/Passive to Active/Active upgrade is quite limited. I am sending you some newer/older perf numbers for comparison and consideration

Re: Firmware EVA5000 3.110 or 4.x ?

Hallo Mr. IBaltay,
I am thinking hard what to do, update an EVA5000 from 3.028 to 3.110 or 4.xxx.
I have a situation with 1 EVA5000 (v3.028)and 1 EVA4000 (v6.000) which have CA relation.
Do you think is is wise to upgrade the EVA5000 to version 4.xxx ?
Please advice, Herman Sugeng

Hi Herman,
XCS 6000 -> upgrade to the 6110 or coming 62xx
Unfortunately you are allready on the deactivated firmware on the EVA 6000. So you have a choice to wait for the brand new 6200 or to upgrade it to the latest supported 6110.

upgrade to the VCS 4007 (the latest supported AA for EVA3/5k)
a) can be done only by HP service personell
b) from 3110 or earlier must be done offline (io halted) with subsequent multipath drivers reconfiguration
c) downgrade from the VCS 4007 is not supported, that means that you can only restore the whole data from the tapes.
