Need help:the connec between 8 prot san switch and 16 san switch.
In A site, there are a EVA4k,two 16port san switches, and one SMA. and one SMA has two HBAs connect two san switches.
In B site, there are a EVA3k,one 16port san switch, one 8port san switch ,and one SMA has two HBAs connect two san switches.
Now.1. cu want to manager two EVAs on A site.So he use two fibres connect the San switches between A site and B site.
2. let cu change the san switches' domain id on B site.
3. the result is:the connect between two 16port san switches is OK. and SMA on A site can manage the EVA on B site.
4. But the connect between 8port san switch and 16 san switch is fail.cu said it was successful for change the domain id, but there are some error reportes, as follows:
Log Msg: [Sat Feb 19 02:27:16.341 UTC 2000][C][8700.0011][Eport][Port: 7][Connection failure, remote switch not compatible]
Alarm Msg: [Sat Feb 19 02:27:16.341 UTC 2000][A][1004.0041][Port: 7][Eport Isolating due to Eport Restricted]
5. the result of show switch on 8 port san switch is:

Re: Need help:the connec between 8 prot san switch and 16 san switch.
Hi,
it looks like the 8-port switch is a Qlogic switch (2/8q). The others are probably Brocade. I don't think the 2/8q was ever sold separately by HP. It came with the MSA1000 for Small Business SAN kit.

As fas as I can remember, these switches did not have E-Port capability, so it could not be interconnected with another SAN switch. Looking at your error messages seems to confirm this (Eport Restricted).
I think you will need to replace this 2/8q switch with a Brocade switch that is fabric-capable.
Regards,
Stephen

Re: Need help:the connec between 8 prot san switch and 16 san switch.
Thans Stephen.
You are right, cu's swith is Qlogic Switch from MSA1000.
So the root cause is you have said, it's not support connect with other's san switch.
Thanks a lot:)
