Why are comments hidden in KB articles?

Why are comments hidden in KB articles?

I just noticed a Knowledge Base article that had a comment.  It seems the comments are hidden by default.

Any particular reason?  Any way to provide an option in your profile to change it?

It appears some time ago this was changed so now by default they appear.
