OutLook Attachments

Can anyone tell me why my OutLook Express has decided to stop opening attachements. Any attachment except a Word attachment appears in the shadow print (light gray) and thus will not open if I click on it.

It used to work just fine for pix, etc.

I am running 2K. I have started using Zone Alarm. I used to use Out Post.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I have installed all of the 2K patches that have been issued in the past few weeks.

I'm using version 6.

One possible reason, is that Outlook Express 6 is more restrictive. By default it's security setting is set to Restricted Zone instead of the Internet Zone (Express 5 used Internet zone).

Try relaxing the security settings.

Summa summarum: MS wants you protected against 'dangerous' document types by default :) But some of this protection you can disable...

I updated my Outlook Express to 6 and did not have that problem, of course I am not running X. I have heard that Microsft X is having problems with new software being added. Probably one of the reason I will stick with ME.

Thanks all....

I changed the Out Look 6 setting to "Internet". I also turned off Zone Alarm's e-mail protection. No luck. Out Look still won't open the attachments. Eudora will, but I like the interface of Out Look and would rather use it.


Any more ideas?

Changing the security setting to Internet still might not fix this problem, depending on what your internet explorer security settings are. take a look at the following article on changing security settings in IE6 and Outlook Express 6 and set everything as low as possible. See if this works and use trial and error to get your security settings back up while still being able to open attachments.
