password protecting wireless netgear modem

I run netflix through my WII and I keep having laspes of streaming. I was told I need to password protect my modem but I am unsure how to do this. Can anyone help me with this situation? it is annoying to be watching a movie and have to wait for it to re retrieve it. It has done it 5 times just this evening.

Re: password protecting wireless netgear modem

Did they say password protect or encrypt your wireless network?

They are using the wrong terminology, encryption is the right one. I would think a password on your modem prevents changes from being made.

Do you know how to access your modem from your PC?
For my Linksys router I have to use this in my browser: http://192.168.1.1/
And for my DSL modem: http://192.168.0.1/
But consult your documents. What type of Netgear modem do you have?

Under wireless, you have several choices:
WPA and WEP (not as strong encryption)
You need to set up a key or passphrase and make sure all of your wireless devices know what you are changing it to.

Try this Nintendo links for possible resolutions:

Are you confident that no one else in your household is using the wireless connection for any other purpose?

Make a great day!
