DNS/nslookup FQDN timeout issue.

OS W2K3 Enterprise SP1, AD-integrated DNS.

When I run nslookup it resolves the short name
for a server without a problem. It also works ok for reserve lookups. But when I do a nslookup for any FQDN, it works, but it gets a
timeout error message.
"DNS request timed out".
"timeout was 2 seconds".

Anyone have any ideas as to why this happens?

10 points to any good answer.
TIA, Gino

Re: DNS/nslookup FQDN timeout issue.

Check DNS entries in advanced TCP/IP settings. Make sure you have appropriate DNS suffix entries. If not a member of the domain you need to have DNS suffix for this computer setting as well.

Another thing often missed is the System settings in the control panel. On the Computer Name tab select change and then more. Ensure your primary DNS suffix is entered hear.

Re: DNS/nslookup FQDN timeout issue.

Jeff,

That fixed the problem. I needed to add the
DNS suffix entry. I rebooted the server and the DNS timeout problem is fixed now.

Thank you
