NC373i NIC driver update - DL380 G5 - Help!

I have tried to update the NC373i Mulitfunction GB adapter in our DL380 G5 server. The installation splashes an error (Attached NC373i.jpg) I've only found articles relating to MS Server Std edition, it's of no help.

OS: MS Server 2003 x64

Driver information (Attached)

Thanks for your help!

hi

you can try updating driver manually extract .exe and using device manager search for the inf file and update if that does not work and I see the actual driver is way to old 2.8.13

try at least 2 previous previous version before installing the latest one

you right now are trying to install version
Version: 4.6.17.0 (C) (4 Feb 2009)

so I can recommend you try
1. Version: 3.4.10.0 (13 Jul 2007)
2. Version: 4.1.5.0 (25 Feb 2008)
3. and latest the one you are trying to install

all versions here

Re: NC373i NIC driver update - DL380 G5 - Help!

I have been able to get the driver to 3.4.10, every revision from there breaks the system and I have to roll back the driver. I am going to try updating the NIC Firmware on the weekend and try again.

In anycase the server seems to be running sweet in just going to 3.4.10, keep our fingers x'd!

What symptoms were you having? I also get the same error when trying to load the updated drivers on my DL380 G5 Win2k3 STD x64. My server is suffering from random BSOD. The latest BSOD happened when it was being backed up.

Did you upgrade the Network Configuration Utiliy? There are minimum versions of those. If fact if your driver is taht old maybe you should consider installing the latest Proliant support pack. Might want to consider updating the firmare on the nic too. There were issues with 2003 that required a firmware update of the nic.

Re: NC373i NIC driver update - DL380 G5 - Help!

I had this too on all my new Windows 2008 x32/x64 servers with the latest driver.

I extracted the drivers and updated manually the 'HP NC373i Virtual Bus Device' under 'System devices' in device manager.

I was then able to update the nic drivers executing the installation package.

So there is an issue with these latest drivers on fresh installs of Windows 2008 (std us) x64 and x32 Server.

Oh, ... extra information;

On fresh installs of Windows 2008 32/64 i had the same error. I had to install the driver from psp8.15b first because it would gave me the 'hp virtual bus driver' in device manager. From there I could update this to the latest as described above.

Re: NC373i NIC driver update - DL380 G5 - Help!

I tried loading the latest PSP pack, it failed to update the NICs as the version of the driver we have does not support HPSUM.

Our problem is with SQL having communication link failures

I will look for the Virtual Bus driver and try that on the weekend as well

Thats if my girl will let me leave her on Valentines day!

Arian, where did you locate the update for "I extracted the drivers and updated manually the 'HP NC373i Virtual Bus Device' under 'System devices' in device manager"

Thanks

Re: NC373i NIC driver update - DL380 G5 - Help!

BrendanM,

Sorry for the confusion.

I got the same error as you got but the OS i used was Windows 2008 Standard Server x32 and x64.

Anyway, here are my steps that i took to install the latest nic driver (post psp8.15b) on these servers;

As I could not install the latest NIC driver directly, which gave me the same error as you had, I installed the nic driver coming with psp8.15b.

This driver installed without error so now I got the 'HP virtual bus' driver thing in device manager.

Now I extracted the latest NIC package (extracting means executing the package and choose extract the files to a location). This extraction got me the plain drivers which I could now use to manually update the virtual bus driver.

After manually updating, only the virtual bus driver, I executed the install package again and now I could install without error.

To me there is a problem with the latest nic package -> 4.6.17.0 (C) 4 Feb 2009 for x32 and x64 Windows 2008.

As far as I tested on 3 fresh Windows installs the driver would not install without error.
