yes, thanks. I did locate FreeAXP, and everything is working well now. The only difference is the hardware emulation. If I had the cash for the ES40 version of Charon AXP that would also have worked for my POC. Since we use Charon VAX, and Charon AXP here, once I finish getting the FreeAXP running with the CD set I found in my garage, Tru64 5.1B-2, I will run a DD of my Tru64 4.0D onto a volume on my FreeAXP. The image files are interchangeable between the FreeAXP and the Personal Alpha so I will be able to boot my Tru64 4.0D onto that once I complete my DD of the system disk and all will be well.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. One just need to NOT think inside the "conventional wisdom" of the academics whose life is stuck thinking inside a box.

Thanks for all the banter on this. The discussion helped me formulate a workable solution to this conundrum.
