OpenVMS EOL?

I just heard rumors that OpenVMS is officially going end-of-life.

True?

Guenther,

here is the 'HP customer letter' as published by openvms.org:

Re: OpenVMS EOL?

My summary:

  1. The roadmap has lost all pretence of new versions or features.
  2. They can't even be bothered to port to the next gen Itanium.
  3. There is no official EOL for support on Itanium as yet.

Guenther,

here is a pointer to an HP press release 'HP Extends Support for OpenVMS through Year 2020' ...

Re: OpenVMS EOL?

I think I heard my first VMS EOL rumour in 1987. Since then I've seen NT and Tru64 actually go EOL. And Digital, come to that...

When the 5 year roadmaps first came out each was met with a 'Oh, VMS only has 5 years to live'. I think the first one was back in 1997.

As Mark Twain said, "The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated".

Have fun,
