Connect to server Serial via OA SSH

I'm trying to connect to the console of a blade by ssh-ing to the OA.  This does not seem to work.

For example, I can ssh to the OA, login, and then execute 'connect server serial 3', and get a console.

However, I cannot:

ssh $OA_IP connect server serial 3

This causes the console to be setup and immediately torn down:

Starting virtual serial port.
Press 'ESC (' to return to the CLI Session.

Any ideas on how this can be done?
