Re: 11iv2 RISC vs 11v2 Itanium

I was under the impression that the new v2 (Sep04+) was largely a repackaged combo of 11.23 + 11.11 (although I have never actually held the DVD in my hand;>)

IOW, there are really 2 sets of bits on the DVD -- not one set of bits that can run on either PARisc or Itanium. Some parts of it could be common, of course, but surely the OS bits are different.

Is this incorrect?

Re: 11iv2 RISC vs 11v2 Itanium

The bits are certainly different (they'd have to be unless you want the IPF version to run slow as a dog in some type of PA emulation scheme), but the source for the kernel at least is mostly (barring machine-dependant code) the same.. I can't say for certain what the application stack breakdown was like. I know some must have been rebuilt (to match kernel changes), and some of the ones in 11.23 were unchanged from the 11.0 / 11i version anyway...
