Activating Cores
We have a new rx8640 server with 2 nPars.
Each nPar has 4 * Dual Core1.6 Ghz Montavale Processors. So, i should see 8 cores in machinfo. However i could only see 5 logical processors. EFI shows all the 16 threads as hyperthreading is activated on the machine.
We also have Gicap rights for sharing.
How should i activate this cores, is it through GiCap or gWLEM

Re: Activating Cores
To activate it use the command icod_modify -s
If you use GiCAP you need to check if there are licences in the pool the machine belongs to and all activating must be done on the GiCAP Manager (usually a separate box).

Re: Activating Cores
my advice:
step away from the keyboard and thoroughly read the iCAP manual available here:
http://docs.hp.com/en/B9073-90201/B9073-90201.pdf
make sure you understand the concepts and implementation throroughly before returning to your problem.
If you still can't figure out what's going on, or are not prepared to invest the time in reading the manual, I suggest you get a qualified consultant in to help you setup your iCAP/GiCAP configuration.

Please get in contact with your local HP partner or HP representative to setup the GiCAP enviroment, at this point it is not a simple task to activate the CPU's.

Re: Activating Cores
You then need to get the rules file from the portal and install that onto the GiCAP server, then you need to create the relevant codeword for THAT server to be able to set up useage rights.
As Duncan says, be VERY careful here.
