Backup - Data Phase Error
Running SLES8 on DL380 with a SCSI HBA connected to an ADIC i2K with 2 LTO-2 drives.
Using Networker as backup software.
Backup is running fine on 1 drive, but when it hits the other drive, it would be unable to recognise the tape, or it would marked the tape full prematurely.
Now it gotten to the stage where the good drive is not responding well too.
Only relevant error I can is
==============================
kernel: SCSI Error: (0:3:0) Status=02h (CHECK CONDITION)
kernel: Key=Bh (ABORTED COMMAND); FRU=30h
kernel: ASC/ASCQ=4Bh/00h ""
kernel: CDB: 08 00 00 80 00 00 - "READ(6)"
kernel:

00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x03 0x01
================================
SCSI HBA is from LSILogic with /proc/scsi/mptscsih
=======================
ioc1: LSI53C1030, FwRev=01032300h, Ports=1, MaxQ=255
=======================
I thought it might be firmware issues, but I have another identical setup running fine.
Any ideas or leads? thanks!

Re: Backup - Data Phase Error
I have got exactly the same :
DL380 with an Addic (mine is Scalar 100) with 2 LTO2 tape.
Same messages .
I have updated the DL380 Bios, the scsi card firmware, upgrade the RedHAt version, verifying the connectic,...
I have four opened cases Hp,Veritas,RedHAt,Addic and nothing is clear.
Please tell me if you have found a solution.
Thanks.

Re: Backup - Data Phase Error
Wanted to monitor the issue more before posting back here.
Previously, I changed the HBA, changed tape drive even reinstalled SLES, but problem comes back intermittently.
Final change was the SCSI cable....so far, its been good. So likely its a faulty SCSI cable...

Re: Backup - Data Phase Error
Thank you for the answer.
I have change Scsi cable, HBA ( LSILogic -> adaptec) , upgrade the Linux Kernel , and nothing change.
Finally i bought new Fuji cartridge ( formers where Imation( not recommended by Adic ) ).
And it works since yesterday with new cartrige.
I am very surprised that about 15 cartridge can have bad quality.
Perhaps another problem dammaged cartridge .
I have to check that.

Re: Backup - Data Phase Error
Did you contact Imation abt it?
The Imation rep for me had been very prompt and helpful when a colleague of mine encountered bad blocks on tapes (this happened also with other vendors, but Imation response was the best)
The other thing that I just found out was a SCSI probe from Legato networker also caused some issues. Need to use the probe with an option.
