boot error HP-UX 11.11

Hi ,

I am using HP-UX 11.11 PA-RISC Server.I replaced my primary boot disk and after replacement when reboot the box, then i am getting the following error:

ISL>hpux -is
Boot
:disk(0/0/1/1.15.0.0.0.0.0;0) /stand/vmunix
disk(0/0/1/1.15.0.0.0.0.0;0) /stand/vmunix: cannot open, or not executable

I even tried to boot through my alternate boot
disk but it showed me the same error with the comment
"/stand/vmunix: cannot open, or not executable"

How to resolve this issue ?

Shalom,

Boot your system with OS install media.

Try the recovery shell and put in place a temporary kernel in /stand or mv vmunix.prev vmunix

If the /stand file is corrupt or can not be mounted, you are looking at recovering off Ignite make_tape_recovery/make_net_recovery backups or an OS re installation.

Re: boot error HP-UX 11.11

Have you already tried booting through backup kernel

e.g.

ISL>hpux /stand/vmunix.bak

How exactly did you do this? It looks like disk 1.15 is bootable (mkboot -B was run n it) but does not have a kernel in it. Did you do vgsync after replacing the primary?

What does booting off the alternate show?

Re: boot error HP-UX 11.11

Your disk is bootable......kernal has been corrupted.

Boot from alternate disk and see the error on that.

You can use ignite backup for its reccovery too.

Thanks

Re: boot error HP-UX 11.11

If neither primary nor alternate can boot, you've either toasted them in some way, or you boot paths are incorrect. See if you can find a bootable device path from BCH by running:

sea ipl

That might take some time, but may find a bootable disk at some other hardware path to that stored in NVRAM.
