'Cannot find ENTRY_TEST' error when trying to boot

Hi All, I've a problem with a Visualize 9000 machine, I hope somebody could kindly help me with.

Trying to boot it goes through every device and disk, and doesn't even recognize the CD with a bootable disk in.

Then using 'boot SESCSI.2.0', or 'boot'any disk path or using any disk id I get this:-
-----------------------------------------------

Booting...
Cannot find ENTRY_TEST

Failed to initialize.

ENTRY_INIT
Status = -7

FFFFFFF9 00000000....... | and another 30 words with only 3 with values apart from 0. And it finishes:-

Failed to initialize.

-----------------------------------------------
This is not my main machine by any means, but I'd like to get it working and have it as more than a shelf prop :-) The firmware is 4.9 and OS version I think is 10.2. I actually want to upgrade it to 11i, which is the cause of these experiments. I reiterate just to be clear it won't boot in to any OS or drive.
Thanks for your help
Ian

Re: 'Cannot find ENTRY_TEST' error when trying to boot

It looks like your boot disk issue or the controller issue.

Btw, HP-UX 10.2 and 11.11 are out of support now.

I guess, you might be using the old K class server with external disk case. (giant machine).

to be correct, for 11.11 there's definitely a support until 31 december 2013. Only the sale period is over by the end of 2009.

Re: 'Cannot find ENTRY_TEST' error when trying to boot

ENTRY_INIT
Status = -7

-7 means:
"Nonexistent device.
The device address supplied to ENTRY_INIT is valid, but, the target controller or device is not installed or is not responding"

I guess this is because of a bad drive/controller.

Re: 'Cannot find ENTRY_TEST' error when trying to boot

Thanks!! I'd hoped it wasn't a hardware issue. I guess it's the controller been fried as it won't boot from a bootable CD either.

Anyone with anything to add or suggestions please? A friend suggested I use it as a door stop so I've heard that one :-)

Re: 'Cannot find ENTRY_TEST' error when trying to boot

Hi Viktor, Could this be as simple as an internal lead or plug having been dislodged?

Re: 'Cannot find ENTRY_TEST' error when trying to boot

Could you please read the model from the label and tell what you have?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

I would say unlikely, but it's another possibility that cannot be excluded. Since you don't have a support, you can disassemble it and take a look inside. You have nothing to loose. ;)

Hi Torsten, it's a HP Visualize C 180 machine.
