Conversion from Trusted to Non-Trusted system.

Conversion from Trusted to Non-Trusted system.

I have a HPUX 11.11 which is a standalone server running on Trusted system. I need to migrate this server to NIS environment. We don't have a NIS+ environment at the moment, and I believe I need to convert this system to Non-Trusted first before I implement NIS. Do we have any consequence by converting system to Non-Trusted? What are the criteria I need to focus on before I move on?

Thanks.

Re: Conversion from Trusted to Non-Trusted system.

Do you have passwords long than 8 chars?
Run pwck(1M) before and after you convert.

also you can convert it as follows

using sam as follows

Auditing and Security -> Audited Events -> Actions -> Unconvert the System

and by command line

# /usr/lbin/tsconvert -r
or
# /etc/tsconvert -r

Re: Conversion from Trusted to Non-Trusted system.

Dennis & Jupinder,

Thanks for your prompt feedback.

I did a pwck -l /etc/passwd and I can see that there is couple of users having > 8 characters password. Do they need to change password for < 8 characters before I convert to Non-Trusted system?

Re: Conversion from Trusted to Non-Trusted system.

I believe there is no need. When you convert it into non=trusted it will automatically accept the password till 8 chracters only .
