Dial-In Server Problem with 56 Kbps modem

Hello all,
I had Setup a Dial-in Server using the 33 Kbps Modem (server Side) using the mgetty. I have used 56 Kbps modem at the dial-up side(client side). It works fine giving 33 Kbps output, I tried to installed 56 Kbps modem at the server side and I can able to connect it from the 33 Kbps Modem(Client Side).

But When I tried to connect the same setup(second method) with the 56 Kbps modem at the dial-up Side(client side), its not working.

Please let me know if any one have the solution.
Regards,

Re: Dial-In Server Problem with 56 Kbps modem

Sounds like standard modem protcol mis-matches. This happened a fair bit when the evolution of the 56k protocols (56K-Flex, v92, and the 3rd one I can't remember). They were not compatable in the least.

Things to try..

On the client, try forcing the modem to negotiate at 33k6 instead of 56k. See if you get a connect (usually an 'AT+MS=.....' command).

If that fails, try restricting the port speed and baud rate with ATB or ATR.

If all of these fail, then you need to research into compatability init strings for your answer modem.

Giving model numbers here might help.

Re: Dial-In Server Problem with 56 Kbps modem

This is a problem I've had with both Linux and Windows.

After straigtening out modem and driver issues I had the lines tested. My modem line was on an old voice line. Voice works with crossed wires, data not so much.

Even after fixing that, the fact that I was 15,000 feet from the CO and some of the copper was 100 years old made it impossible to connect faster than 31.6 in my case.

What you should get from this is you need to have the lines checked carefully.
