DTC72MX

DTC72MX

I have 2 live and 1 test DTC72MX. both of the live DTC's is connected to dumb terminal, printers and scales for shipping. These were configured before me. The main DTC has 10 Terminals on it, but all ports are configured for printers. They designed the shipping programs to use the port address to work with its partner when shipping. When I tried to change these term types to Terminals it lost that static port address. I change it back and it comes up fine.
The problem I am running into, is If we reboot the DTC for any reason it takes about 4 hours before the Terminals will come up and login. When I changed to terminal type they come up within minutes, but no longer have there static port address. I have also tried putting that name in terminal name or IP. This does not work either. Any insight on why someone would configure this way would be helpful. I am setting up the test on with a test server to see if I can work out how to make it boot faster and still have the static port address. Thank you all for the help you have giving to me in the past. James

Re: DTC72MX

Shalom,

It would be helpful to know:
OS you are using?
What file or system you are using to change configuration?
How much memory the systems have?
What the model number are they?

It would appear based on what you said that a lot of customization was done on these systems and whomover did it should be sought out with regards to documentation.

The 4 hour restart time may be as a result of this customization.

Re: DTC72MX

Good questions:
OS HP_UX 11.11
The test server has 1GB Ram and is a RP2470
The live system is old HP9000 D270 64 bit risc and I am not sure of the ram Would expect around 128MB
I am running DTCMGR to configure the DTC's. We only run 1 proprietary app on this server. It holds product and customer information. Customization is heavy, but they have worked for some time. Now trying to move to the RP2470 server, need to be sure DTC with printer configuration still works with Dumb Terminal. So far all other testing comes up good.
Has anyone ever used a printer type port for a dumb terminal. Is this some trick or did the orginal person who configured this just plug and play.

Re: DTC72MX

The DTC still work with newer servers. In fact the OCD is now included with HPUX.

The only issue we ran into was the dtc manager. Had to support that from on older HPUX 10.20 server. ( I am not even sure if the DTC Manager software is still available ).

Re: DTC72MX

DTCMGR came with our 11.11 DVD. It is still available and works fine. When I set my test DTC to Terminal type, I can connect within minutes. It would be quicker if I was on a live network and had the support servers.

Re: DTC72MX

OK, after dealing with other project, I am back on this one. After reading about ddfa, ocds, Device file, DP file, I do not see how this works. It looks like the config on the live server using outbound connections to establish static port address to the Dumb Terminals. There is no Telnet device files under /dev/telnet. The DP files contains entries for every port on 2 dtc's. They are all labeled with 9 characters. And yet somehow they connect to the server. In my test enviroment (Not connected to the live network, or internet) I can not get a dumb terminal to connect this way. If I change to terminal type port it works fine. I have read how to assign static address to incoming connections and none of the configurations exist on the live server. The biggest problem I see is that we use a scale to way packages for the shipping program and input the wait reading from the scale. Not quite sure how to set that up. If I succeed I will post more here for future.

Re: DTC72MX

I determined that the configuration was completely wrong. To get a static address just required placing a different value in the dp file under the ddfa directory. My boss did not want to make any changes like that. He decided that getting the programmers to change the shipping program to not require static address. Thank you all for the help.
