file question

Hi what does the * at the end of the file means

i have a user changed his shell from another shell to tcsh - but the .cshrc file does not seem the time stamp as he logged in .Also it has * at the end - what does that mean

It means it is an executable file.

Do a 'man tcsh' and look for the 'ls-F' section. It gives an explanation of all characters that can appear after a file name.

Are you looking at "ls" output, or what?

man ls

Look for "-F"?
