What is the funtion of the colum backup frequency in the /etc/fstab?

As the manpages for 'fstab(4)' note, "Reserved for possible use by future backup utilities".

The standard value is 0, which is likely to mean "no backup using this mechanism".

When you install a new backup software, you'll have to design the backup cycles anyway: 0 is the value that will cause the least amount of surprises.
